| Education Reform in Washington State |
The Washington State Legislature adopted the Education Reform Act of 1993 to establish common learning goals for all Washington students -- goals intended to raise academic standards and student achievement. The Act directed the Commission on Student Learning to develop and administer many of the important components of education reform, including the development of challenging academic content standards, called the Essential Academic Learning Requirements. Washington State's Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction maintains a Web site that provide access to comprehensive information about the academic standards, assessments, and accountability system.
