BOLIVIA
Bolivia
is located in the middle western region of South America.
The Andes Mountains divide the country meaning the Andes run
straight through Bolivia (Yeager, 3). Bolivia is also one
of the only two landlocked countries in South America (Lavine,
53). Its land area is 424,162 sq. mi. or 1,098,580 sq. km.
(Widdows, 280). The Northern region has a humid subtropical
climate with heavy rain fall averaging 50 in. per year. The
South has a much more pleasant climate around 20 degrees Celsius
(68 f) year round and an annual rain fall of 18 in. a year.
Although the Northern region has several major rivers which
help with transportation (Lavine, 54-55).
Currently
10% of Bolivia's labor force is working in manufacturing.
They have approximately 78% of adult literacy rate and 9 universities
giving a lot of educational opportunities. With 49% of the
total 7,400,000 population already living in cities which
could be sites for MOI. The labor pool is consistent given
that their life expectancy is higher than many other countries
in South America. Over 970 million dollars are currently being
exported with the United States as a major trade partner.
Trade routes through a major rail road network and two airports
are already established (Fifer, 4).
