It's a Wild Ride!

Pre-Algebra Syllabus

Introduction: Successful math students are effective problem solvers, can accurately communicate mathematical ideas and concepts, and have a solid foundation in basic arithmetic skills. Additionally, during the upcoming year your student will use a variety of manipulatives and problem solving strategies to establish algebraic thinking skills and to solve algebraic problems. Students will be expected to work in ways similar to those used when mathematical work is done outside of a school setting. Therefore, it is necessary that they demonstrate the ability to integrate basic math skills, algebraic math skills, and problem solving skills throughout the curriculum. A variety of teaching methods will be used to explore algebraic topics such as small group activities, large group activities, learning centers, and teacher lecture. Regardless of the instructional method used, the focus is always on individual student accountability. The overlying goal of this course is to teach algebra as a way of thinking.
