It's a Wild Ride Project

Visit Meile's Math Classroom...

"To hold students' interest, math must also be applicable. Teaming with Theresa the past five years has provided many opportunities for students to apply and transfer math skills into the world of science. The more students apply what they have learned, the more valuable the knowledge is to them and the better they are able to retain it . . ." --Meile Harris

The curriculum connections to Meile's other team members are so densely woven throughout her teaching it is difficult to isolate any one classroom. Meile's philosophy of math education includes the intentional use of language to explain and define, and focused application of math skills and concepts in science. She takes advantage of every opportunity to make connections to real world learning and other content areas, while addressing her district math curriculum and state math standards.

Technology Integration

"It would be impossible to accomplish all this without technology. Whether we are number crunching or running simulations, making predictions or organizing information and examine results, technology is the key. Technology enables students to manage more complex problems that have genuine meaning. Students can link up with true experts and become involved with actual process of problem solving with meaning and rigor." --Meile Harris

Meile has one computer and a printer in her classroom. The team has a portable zip drive that currently can only be used with a laptop because it requires Windows 98 (which we will be installed this summer). The team has also acquired a digital camera, camcorder, and a data/video projector, which were purchased with grant money.
