IT'S A WILD RIDE!

For the next eight weeks we will be investigating force and motion in an integrated math/science unit titled, It's a Wild Ride. This unit uses theme park rides as the vehicle for investigation. The culminating event is an optional field trip to Lagoon Amusement Park in which we will be taking measurements of certain motion and force principles using science probeware. Of course, many of these measurements must be taken while being a passenger (though no one is required to ride any particular ride-there are plenty of measurements that can be taken from the ground). Some of the measurements will be analyzed on the spot, while others will be analyzed at school through a computer program.

This is an optional field trip, so regular school will be in session for anyone not attending. Students who decide not to go will work with videotapes of amusement park rides at school to accomplish some of the basic ideas.

Please fill out the information below so I can reserve some coaches from Sun Valley Stages (yes, they have the little TVs). We can only take full buses, so sign up early to reserve a seat.

When: May 12th Load bus at 5:45 a.m., return around 8:00 p.m.
Where: Lagoon in Utah How: Sun Valley Stages-approximately a 4-hour trip
Cost: $35.00 ($20.00 is nonrefundable after May 11th)
What to bring: Lunch or money for lunch, writing tools
Optional: Extra money for the Sky Coaster ($15.00).

Schedule: Load buses at the school at 5:45 a.m., arrive at park, 9:00, complete assignment sometime between 9:30-11:30 a.m.. From 11:30-4:00 is on your own, load buses at 4:00, arrive back at the school between 8:00-8:15.

Deadline: Sign up and pay from April 4th- May 1st. (To guarantee your seat, sign up early)

**I am looking for a few brave people to ride the Sky Coaster. I would love to get some measurements from that ride. (Come on guys, even I did that one last year.)
